DownTemple Dub: Remixed
On DownTemple Dub: Remixed, World-class sound alchemists filter Desert Dwellers’ classic psy-chilled grooves through a kaleidoscope of midtempo breaks and ornately-textured ambience. Yoga dub meets ethno-electronic bass music on this genre-bending journey through realms of sonic bliss and dancefloor ecstasy.
Bringing the bass music vibe to the yoga space – and the yoga vibe to the bass music space – Desert Dwellers’ global sounds are the bridge between two ideas. Joining solid groove with sounds of serenity, their signature yoga dub aesthetic feels as natural after hours as it does on the yoga mat. Due in no small part to Desert Dwellers’ pioneering spirit, the very concept of yoga music has expanded dramatically.
Some of the most forward thinking producers in the ethno-electronic scene embrace the Desert Dwellers concept on DownTemple Dub: Remixed, a reimagining of Desert Dwellers’ tranquility bass and groove-infused South Asian psy-chill fusion.
International excursions from pacesetting deep bass alchemists (Kalya Scintilla, Love & Light, Kaminanda, and Drumspyder among them), and contributions from rising names in the burgeoning yogabeat scene (Duke Mushroom, EarthRise SoundSystem, Eccodek), the album is more than just deep bass, cool soundscapes and exotic voices. It is the expression of music’s ritual and scientific power. It is the pursuit of the transformative, communal experience that bass music and yoga share.
Review from The Untz :::
In today’s current EDM landscape, it seems too many producers are excessively focused on creating the filthiest or grimiest sound. While this can be entertaining at times, it goes without saying that there is so much more depth to the world of bass.
One act is taking their respective scene to a whole new dimension—Desert Dwellers. Its main members Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe have spent the last few years perfecting a fine-tuned sound that is both creative and exceedingly euphoric. These temple-step producers got their start in the Southern California dance frontier known as Moontribe, and in making sonic strides have been able to craft a mesmerizing sound that combines the past, present, the future. Their effervescent and immersive music is nothing short of a sonic boom of electricity and soulful passion, which is demonstrated on releases like Muladhara Yoga Dub and the Spaces Between EP.
The group’s latest album takes bits and pieces from some of their previous releases and lets a crew of talented producers take a crack at their already impressive music on Downtemple Dub: Remixed.
Opening up the uplifting and exciting album is “Point of Awakening,” which is remixed by Androcell. The track features tribal rhythms, mystical instrumentations, and at times a benevolent reggae style bounce that will have anyone’s head moving to the beat.
“More Than Anything,” by Love and Light possesses a magical, bubbly soundscape and Middle Eastern vocal samples that will bridge the gap between mind and soul in a heartbeat.
Two tracks appear in a big way from the Oakland producer Drumspyder. “Tala Odyssey,” is a groovy bongo bumping cut that will transport the listener’s mind right to the jungles of Africa, while “Bodhi Mandala” will induce immediate relaxation and have them running to the place where this entrancing music is best enjoyed: the yoga mat.
Kaminada and and Kayla Scintilla both step up to the plate in a huge way on this album. “Dragon’s Mist,” is a sensual and diligently crafted cut that features out of this world vocals, while “Lotus Heart,” will take any listener on a journey through endless untraveled dimensions and open the listeners soul to limitless possibilities while a symphonic didgeridoo funk guides your way.
Downtemple Dub: Remixed is a smooth and impressive album from start to finish that is the perfect music to relax you, or even to guide you on a world class adventure. Each artist brings their own unique sound to the release while still giving listeners a taste of the endless musical beauty that DD bring to the table, or better yet the desert.
